Palm oil. It's good for you! It's good for the orangutans! Wait...no, it's not.

I have no idea when it started. I wish I knew and I could go back in time to punch in the face the first man who had this great idea. What an excellent idea! Good job buddy! Ok, Nina calm down... Every time I'm thinking about this subject I go crazy. Of course I'm not an expert but if you are not sure what palm oil is, where it's coming from, what it's doing with the soil of the rainforests and everything that lives there, I'm going to try to tell you about it.

The palm oil tree is very simple to cultivate, it has no special needs but the yield is extremly rich with oil. Because of that palm oil is number one in the whole world. I'm not lying (I wish I were) when I say that almost every company uses palm oil to make their products. You can check it yourselves. Please, do! Next time you go shopping take your time to read the list of ingredients of the chosen products. Do you know what will you see? Palm oil in everything! No sunflower seed oil, no rape-oil, no olive oil..no...only that crappy palm oil. Because it's very cheap. It's the cheapest in the market. It’s in chocolate, chips, candy, pretzel, noodle soup, sausage, bread, cookie, cake, drink, hand cream, face cream, shampoo, conditioner, lipstick, body lotion, even perfumes.

I'm not saying that palm oil is unhealthy to eat and use(who knows.. I wonder what an expert, a scientist would say about it) but the point is that thousands and I'm afraid millions of hectare rainforests had to die to give place, soil to cultivate this damn oil tree. In every hour the size of 300 football fields of rainforests get destroid. This is a real fact! In every day 6 – 12 orangutans get killed.

Do you know how it happens? The greedy morons set a fire in the forests. That's how! They don't give a shit about those animals who live in it. All kinds of monkeys, birds, snakes, millions of insects... They all die in the fire. If a few survive, they have to live in an animal shealter or a Zoo. So many families get destroid. Don't think they are so different from us human beings. There are moms, dads, little monkey babies live together and in a fire like this sometimes they all die. Sometimes a monkey baby stays alive or only the mom. I can’t imagine how they feel. How would you feel? Please, imagine it. Just for a second. I know it’s hard and it’s so sad that your heart breaks into pieces. Imagine what would it be like to lose your family. I really hope we won’t have to experience something similar. But those animals, those wonderful, innocent creatures had to, they have to. Everyday. Even in this moment. They are no different from us. They have every right to live in this planet, just like you and me.

Because of the human kind they all die. All of them. If you talk about species who became extinct in he past you feel sorry for them, right? The mammoth or the dinosaurs. Pretty soon (sooner than you think) we will talk about elephants, orangutans, tigers, lions, rhinoceroses, coalas, pandas, sails, pinguins, whales, sharks, tuna fish… In the ice age animals died because of the extreme cold. Nowdays they die and die out because of us. Only us.

Oh, another fact: When a palm oil tree is in a soil, it kills the soil compeletly. After that there is no chance to grow anythig for a long time there. So not only animals, plants, forests die but the ground as well under them. 90% of the palm oil comes from Indonesia and Malaysia. 80% of the rainforests have been destroied so far. Only 20% left. I really don’t understand those people who let this happen. They don’t see anything else only the present (money). They don’t think about the future. Not for a tiny second.

What will we have? What will stay alive or who will stay alive in a sick world like this? I don’t want to open another huge and important subject right now but what do people think why God has created us and everything we have? For this? I don’t think so.

Me and my husband started to buy only palm oil free things. It’s not easy because around 90% of the products contain palm oil so we have to read the ingredients. Shopping feels like you are in a library… But when you get home and make dinner, trust me you will have a better appetite knowing that not a single orangutan died because of your meal.

The apple

Three years ago me, my husband and one of my best friends, Jerome (an awesome world traveler French guy) went to the castle of Buda to show him around. It's a beautiful historical
place. When we got there I saw something. I almost walked away without noticing it but then I felt a strange feeling telling me to look right because there is something. And there it was...! I stopped and just stared at it. Do you want to know what it was? An apple. A healthy, juicy, shiny green apple on the top of a garbage with a bite in it. I even took a picture because it was so shocking to me. Not hat I forget anything I see or hear. My husband is amazed how small details I remember from the past. Anyway, that moment was THE moment when I realized that something is really wrong. Wrong with people, wrong with the world. Who the heck does something that horrible with a beautiful, delicious looking apple? Just throw it away like that? What did he or she thought? "Hmmm... no... I have changed my mind... I don't feel like eating it... I don't care about the fact that in this very moment hundreds or maybe thousands of people, children, babies, dogs, cats, ect... die around the world from starvation."
Of course sometimes even I forget about leftover in the fridge and when it taints I have to put it in the garbage and I feel so bad. It happens to everyone, right?  But with that poor apple the case was compeletely different. Somebody thrown it away after taking a bite. I don't think he or she thought that: "Ohh, awwww, this apple is so yummy that I want to give it to a homeless  so he/she could eat it instead of me." Ok...there are no homeless people in the castle area, only tourists and rich people who live there.
Wasting food is a crime! Unfortunately it's happening all over the world in every moment. In restaurants, schools, work places, on the street ect.. People usually buy or take more than they want or able to eat and then all the leftover goes to the garbage.  Half of hamburgers, french fries, soup, cake, rice, bread... You name it, it's in the garbage. In America factories rather pour out the yield they couldn't sell to the ocean than giving it to those in need. Parents don't teach their children not to waste food at home so they won't eat normally at school, kindergarten. Nowdays children are so picky. They all learn it at home and then they become the "healthy apple thrower" adults. It's sad, isn't it?
In Africa millions of people, parents would give their left arms for that apple so they could give it to their very hungry children. My heart goes out for them. I'm writing my blog because of them. I'm writing it because of that apple and the trees, the soil, the ocean, the orangutans, rhinoceroses, pandas, whales, tuna fish... Millions of people destroy our planet every single day and you know why? Greediness, money. That's why.  I'm sick of it. I can't take it any more. I have to help out Globe and the suffering people, creatures who need it.
Please, everyone! PLEASE, try to live a better life, a healthier life.  Try to put a pure meaning of the centre of your lives, not the money.

Start helping the planet to recover

My name is Nina. I am the wife of a wonderful man, the mother of two beautiful little girls and a boy. I am a person who stopped, looked around and said: People! What are we doing with our Globe??? Don't you see what's happening? Our planet is changing in a way we will not be able to live on in the future. Nor the animals, nor the plants. Do you think that the Mars is the key? Why? If you killed this planet, trust me you can live right here under the ground in cages. You don't have to travel in space to do that. But you know what?  Stay and stop poisoning our home. Start healing it. Start helping the planet to recover.
I'm Hungarian and I live in Budapest. Before that I lived in a small town near Washington D.C. for a while. I know I'm not a native speaker but I think I can use this language to write my blog so you can read it all over the world. Sorry about the writing mistakes. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say, what is my message to you! Thank you for reading my blog. Help our Globe with me!
